The Lumineers Procedure
Getting lumineers is a quick and easy process that can be completed in just two short visits to our office. During your first appointment, Dr. Sahafi will take detailed impressions of your teeth and send this information to a laboratory, where your lumineers will be customized just for you.
Typically, it takes about two weeks before we receive your lumineers and you can return to our office to complete the treatment. After checking to ensure they look natural and fit comfortably, Dr. Sahafi will bond the lumineers to your teeth with a special dental resin. Once they’re in place, you’ll be ready to show off your new smile from the moment you leave our office.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between lumineers and veneers?
Lumineers and veneers are very similar treatments. However, there are a few key differences that set lumineers apart, such as:
- They’re thinner and more translucent
- They don’t require any removal of your natural tooth structure
- No drilling, shots, or temporary acrylics are necessary
Is getting lumineers painful?
Just like with veneers, Dr. Sahafi will apply a local anesthetic to numb your teeth and gums before the procedure, ensuring you don’t feel any pain. If you have sensitive teeth or suffer from dental anxiety, we also can provide general anesthesia or conscious sedation.
You may experience mild discomfort after the procedure is finished, but this should fade quickly and can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medications.
Are lumineers more expensive than veneers?
Typically, lumineers are more expensive than traditional veneers, though the difference in cost isn’t huge. On average, lumineers cost anywhere from $100 to $300 more per tooth than veneers. Lumineers have also become less costly in recent years, helping more patients take advantage of their many benefits.
How long do lumineers last?
Generally, lumineers last for about the same amount of time as traditional veneers. With excellent oral hygiene and regular checkups, they’ve been known to last up to 20 years. On average, lumineers need to be replaced roughly every 10 years.
